Andy Larson, 17, rides through standing water on the new mountain bike he got for Christmas along 13th Street in Philomath Wednesday morning. Zack Hyde, 16, follows in the background. Flooding throughout Benton County caused road closures after nearly 2 inches of rain fell in 24 hours over Tuesday and Wednesday morning and the forecast is calling for the rain to continue through the weekend. Southern Oregon is expected to get hit with more heavy rain and continue on through Friday. Many rivers already are swollen, the National Weather Service said. Both the South Fork of the Coquille River in Myrtle Point and the main stem of the Coquille River in Coquille are above flood stage. Minor flooding is reported in Myrtle Point, however the river was expected to fall below flood stage this morning. Moderate flooding is expected in Coquille where the river was expected to crest at 23 feet earlier today. Widespread flooding was expected throughout the Coquille River floodplain.
