The third-annual Bus Jam is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, in the parking lots of the Coos Bay and North Bend Bi-Mart stores.

Food, clothing and toys will be stuffed into two school buses. The food will be taken to Coos County food banks and clothing and toys will be distributed to qualifying families on Dec. 17.

Items for the Bus Jam include items for teenage girls and boys, watches, T-shirts, bikes, sweatshirts, boxer shorts, pajamas, children’s toys, games, Barbie dolls, baby dolls, books, coats, sports balls, Legos, clothes (all sizes), socks, jewelry and electronic games; gift certificates from McDonalds, Dairy Queen, grocery stores, movie theaters, North Bend Lanes, Big 5 and Sam Goody; and cash donations.

Drop boxes for donations can be found at McKay’s Market, 149 S. Seventh St., in Coos Bay; Price ’n’ Pride, 1300 Highway Ave., in Reedsport, and 65 10th St., in Bandon; Bi-Mart, 2131 Newmark Ave., in North Bend, and 550 S. Fourth St., in Coos Bay; Books By the Bay, 1875 Sherman Ave., in North Bend; and Bay Cities Ambulance, 54715 Highway 101 South, in Bandon, and 3505 S.E. Ocean Blvd., in Coos Bay.

Applications for help from Salvation Army

The Salvation Army will be taking applications for Christmas toy and food assistance this week.

Applications will be accepted daily from noon to 2 p.m. today through Friday.

Those applying are asked to bring identification, proof of income (medical ID card, etc.), and proof of children living in the home.

Baskets will be distributed Dec. 20 for those who qualified.

Soil, water district meeting on Tuesday

The Coos Soil and Water Conservation District will hold its 45th-annual meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

The meeting will be held at the FarWest building, on state Highway 42S, across from the Odd Fellows Cemetery, in Bandon.

New youth group to meet in the Bay Area

Citizens for Bay Area Youth is holding an organizational meeting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30, in Room 214 of the Pony Village Mall in North Bend.

C-BAY has been formed to help with issues that deal with teens in the area. Topics will include forming a board of directors, fund-raising and future projects such as a recreation center. C-BAY currently is working on developing a new and bigger skateboard park in the Coos Bay-North Bend area. Atigun Moore, president of the Marshfield High School Skate Club, will be present to discuss the proposed new skateboard park. Parents and business representatives are encouraged to attend.
