The Chandler Hotel building, a downtown Coos Bay property listed in the National Register of Historic Places, is inviting the public to an open house today.

The former hotel, which located at 187 W. Central Ave., will be open from 1 to 5 p.m.

To maintain historical status, properties are required to hold open houses. There is a list of 61 such properties statewide. Each of them receives property tax relief under the state's special assessment program, which freezes a property's assessed value for 15 years for local property tax purposes. Owners of commercial properties may re-apply for an additional 15 years.
