Cub Scouts get new trailer for hauling and storing equipment

Menasha Forest Products recently purchased an equipment trailer for Coos and Curry county Cub Scouts. Area troops plan to use the trailer for hauling and storing equipment for Cub Scout day camps.
”We have needed this trailer for a long time. Our day camps have been getting bigger and more elaborate each year, and we needed a place to store all of the camp equipment so that it doesn't get rained on or lost or stolen,“ said Mike Shurtleff, local scouting district executive, in a press release.
Menasha also arranged to have graphics placed on the trailer through Art Signs of Coos Bay.
Approximately 200 Scouts attended one of the three camps held this year in Coos Bay, Powers and Gold Beach. Each camp lasts for up to five days and includes fishing, swimming, archery, BB guns, outdoor cooking and a variety of theme-related events. There are more than 600 registered Cub Scouts in Coos and Curry counties.
Shurtleff met with Menasha's donations committee earlier this year to review the activities and needs of local groups. According to Shurtleff, the committee renewed its commitment to a sizable yearly gift to the ”Friends of Scouting“ campaign, which funds local Scouting activities and projects.
