Events designed to find funds for Katrina victims

Concert benefit

A concert to benefit Salvation Army will be held at 6 tonight at the Port Event Center, 1954 Union, in North Bend.

The Salvation Army will be on hand to accept donations and explain its extensive and ongoing operations for the Gulf Coast Hurricane Katrina Relief and the need to keep these funded.

The concert will feature a variety of Coos County's top bands and entertainers. Music styles will include blues, rock, folk and harp.

Fat Tuesdays Grill will be on hand with Southern-style treats, according to a press release.

Red Cross funding

American Red Cross Disaster Action Team member volunteers in Coos Bay/North Bend will be collecting donations for the National Disaster Relief Fund from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at Captain's Choice Restaurant, 1210 Virginia Ave., in North Bend.

Funds raised will be designated for the National Disaster Relief Fund, which allows the American Red Cross to provide food, shelter, clothing, emotional support and other emergency needs to the victims of Hurricane Katrina and other national disasters.
