A crewman adjusts lines on a barge being loaded with dredge tailings July 22 off the Coos Bay Boardwalk. A summer dredging project under contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will dredge portions of a three-mile stretch of the main channel from near the Coos Bay Boardwalk to an area near the wood chip pile along U.S. Highway 101, according to Army Corps Project Manager John Craig. The Dutra Group, Dredging Division from San Rafael, Calif., is completing the $1.2 million project. The dredge will be moving between 250,000 to 300,000 cubic yards of material from the channel to an ocean dumping ground through August. The crew will move about 8,500 cubic yards per day.
