Workshop focuses on improved soil nutrients

A free water quality workshop called "Are You Washing Money Down the Creek?" will be held in Langlois from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Sponsored by the Curry Soil & Water Conservation District and the Oregon Department of Agriculture, the session will focus on managing pastures and streams to have soil nutrients and improve grazing opportunities.
The workshop will be held in the Blanco School cafeteria at the east side of U.S. Highway 101 in Langlois and a free supper will be provided by the Langlois Market.
The workshop will feature four speakers discussing:
€ riparian area grazing;
€ the results of his extension study of nutrient runoff from pastures into waterways;
€ the effects of runoff nutrients on water quality and how these nutrients can be monitored and controlled; and
€ soil fertility, how soil nutrients move within pastures and how fertilizers can be used efficiently.
There is no fee for the workshop or meal, but attendees are asked to pre-register so the organizers can get a head count for the meal. Those interested can call the Curry Soil & Water Conservation District at (541) 247-2755, or Woody Lane at (541) 440-1926.
