Elementaries can succeed with attendance push

According to the NW Regional Education Laboratory, few studies look at ways to improve children's attendance in elementary school. Those that have, however, found that educators who work with attendance at the elementary level have the most success.
Blossom Gulch Elementary School Principal Jennifer Haliski modeled a mentor program to boost attendance on the laboratory recommendations issued in June 2004. It partners school staff with children who miss a lot of school. The adults make it a point to keep in touch with and encourage the students each day.
