Coquille River Run scheduled for June 4

The annual Coquille River Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, June 4, starting at 9 a.m. at Sturdivant Park.

The event, sponsored by the Coquille Rotary Club, includes a 10-kilometer run and a 3-mile run/walk.

The entry fee is $10, including a T-shirt and $5 without, for those who preregister. The race-day entry fee is $12 with a T-shirt and $5 without.

Race-day registration runs from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. in the park. Entry forms are available at the Coquille Chamber of Commerce and Coquille Century 21.

Rhody Run

South Coast runners won several divisions at the annual Rhody Run last Saturday in Florence.

Former Siuslaw High School standout Kirsten Daniel finished first in the 10-kilometer race for women, with a time of 41 minutes and 6 seconds. Second behind Daniel was Coquille 12-year-old Ally Manley, who was timed in 43:19. Dustina Coleman from North Bend was third in 45:51.

The men's race was won by K.C. Taylor of Eugene, who finished in 37:20. The first South Coast finisher was Ken Young of Coquille, who was seventh in 38:48.

Meanwhile, Florence residents swept the top three spots for both male and female runners in the 5-kilometer race.

In the men's race, assistant Siuslaw coach Aaron Long finished first in 17:13, followed by current Vikings Jack Lindsay (17:31) and Connor Vaccaro (18:07).

A trio of Siuslaw runners led the women, with Leah Twombly finishing in 20:28, followed by Jennifer Hague (21:05) and Mercedes Smith (21:11).

The top three in each age division for both races are listed in today's Community Scoreboard.

Tin Cup

Dewey Powers and Dane Ross combined to finish first in the second-annual Tin Cup at Cedar Bend Golf Course last Saturday.

The two shot a 4-under-par 68 in the best-ball format to win by three strokes.

The best net scores were posted by Mike Shields and Tim Armi and Tom Roseberrry and Jim Carey, both with 56.

Cliff Yadon and Brent Gallup won the Tin Cup Horse Race.

NB hoops camp

The Bulldog Summer Camp, a boys basketball camp for students in first through eighth grades, will be held June 20-23 at North Bend High School. The camp is open to all boys, not just those living in the North Bend School District, and will be conducted by the high school basketball staff and team.

The camp will focus on techniques including shooting, ball handling, passing, rebounding, screening, defense, and much more. There will be mini tournaments each day, along with other contests and competitions.

Each camper will receive a basketball, T-shirt and complimentary pass to a 2005-2006 home basketball game. The cost will be $40 per athlete and $60 per family.
