Voters have until 8 p.m. on Tuesday to turn in their ballots for Coos County special district elections. County officials want to remind residents to sign the back of their ballots, as they have sent some back for improper preparation.

Coos County Clerk Terri Turi said Thursday just more than 3 percent of ballots already had been returned from the 38,805 registered voters. The ballots were mailed April 29.

The ballot drop sites include:

€ The Coos Bay Public Library, 525 W. Anderson, which is open Mondays from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; on Thursdays and Fridays, 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; and on Saturdays, noon to 4 p.m. The ballot boxes will be available on May 17, election day, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

€ The North Bend Public Library, 1800 Sherman Ave., which is open Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from noon to 8 p.m.; on Thursdays and Fridays, 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; and on weekends, 1 to 5 p.m. A box also will be available from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the North Bend Police Department. That box also will be available at the police station from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on election day.

€ Bandon City Hall, 555 Highway 101, which is open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On election day, the drop box will be located at the Bandon Library, 1204 11th St. S.W., which is open from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Before 10:30 a.m. on election day, the box will be in city hall.

€ Lakeside City Hall, 915 North Lake Road, which is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4:30 p.m. The ballot box will be available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on election day.

€ In Coquille, the box will be available at the Coos County Courthouse, 250 N. Baxter St., which is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m.

€ In Myrtle Point, the box will be available at the Flora M. Laird Memorial Library, 435 Fifth St., which is open Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, noon to 5 p.m.

€ Powers City Hall, 275 Fir St., which is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The box will be available on election day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

For those new to the state:

Oregon elections are conducted by mail. There are no polling places. Ballots come to individual homes based on voter registration. This year, marking ballots with a pencil is recommended.

People can register at local libraries, post offices and the election office at the Coos County Courthouse in Coquille.
