Today's Youth Summit features several events

As many as 300 South Coast high school students are expected to come to Coos Bay today for the fifth-annual Coos County Youth Summit sponsored by the Coos County Commission on Children and Families.
Motivational speaker Ray Lozano will open the day with a Fearless Factor presentation on setting goals. Students will then attend talks on these other youth-oriented issues:
€ teen violence, presented by the Women's Safety & Resource Center;
€ anxiety and depression, presented by Steve Krajcr of South Coast Hospice;
€ college planning, presented by retired counselor Cap Sharples;
€ teen sexuality, presented by Cathy Mathais of Coos County Mental Health;
€ eating disorders, presented by Anne and Ellen Goddard of Bandon; and
€ substance abuse, presented by Ray Lozano.
The summit will be held on the Southwestern Oregon Community College campus. The day will end with a discussion on methamphetamine. Speakers will include a former meth user, a child of meth users, a South Coast Interagency Narcotics Team representative, a physician and a treatment staff member from ADAPT. |
