Applications available for Head Start

Wednesday, March 23, 2005 |
The local Head Start preschool program is trying to make it easier for South Coast families to enroll their children in programs.
To better serve the needs of communities throughout Coos and Curry counties, South Coast Head Start is inviting parents to apply by telephone. Families can call 888-3717 or (800) 628-9629 to begin the application process. A staff member will be available Monday through Thursday to process phone-in applications and answer questions from interested parents.
Alternatively, parents can make appointments to provide information in person at the Coos Bay administration office. Families also can access Head Start information and fill out applications at the South Coast Head Start Web page,
http://www.schs.net. For those who prefer to drop off or mail applications, packets can be picked up at participating businesses, community agencies and local Head Start sites.
Head Start is a comprehensive social service and preschool program provided at no cost to income-eligible children and families. Head Start provides family services, health and nutrition screenings and a quality preschool environment. Parent involvement is welcomed and supported in classrooms and throughout the program.
South Coast Head Start serves more than 300 children at nine sites throughout Coos and Curry counties. A full day/full year childcare program located in the Coos Bay/North Bend area also is available for parents who are working or students. Families with children who will be 3 or 4 years old by Sept. 2 are eligible to apply for the 2005-06 school year. Children will be selected in June to begin filling classes starting in September.
