Police academy offered in Reedsport

The Reedsport Police Department and Douglas County Sheriff's Office have joined to present the annual citizens law enforcement academy.

This year's academy is scheduled to begin on March 22 and continue for 10 weeks. Classes are to be held at the Reedsport Police Department on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. There also will be at least two scheduled Saturday field trips.

Training topics will include: communications, patrol procedures, canines, investigations, narcotics, the court system, parole and probation and many others.

Those interested in attending the academy can pick up application forms at the Reedsport Police Department and the Sheriff's Office annex. Participants must be 19 years of age and live or work in western Douglas County. Applicants also cannot have been convicted of certain crimes.

Space is limited. For more information, those interested should contact Officer John Funk at Reedsport Police, 271-2100.
