Memorial for Sermeno is Saturday
Wednesday, March 16, 2005 1:54 PM PST

The memorial to Jose Sermeno, which also will include a celebration of life, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Red Lion Hotel.

Sermeno, an employee who had suffered from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, died Friday afternoon at a Portland hospital. The 32-year-old was one of three Bay Area cancer patients who had been the subjects of marrow screening drives organized by the Coos Bay-North Bend Rotary Club. The other two - Spence Erickson, a Rotarian, and Jose Rodriguez, a Marshfield High School student - continue to be treated for their illnesses.

No keynote speech is planned for Sermeno's service Saturday but visitors will be invited to share their memories about him, according to his colleague, Chris Coles.

For more information about the memorial, those interested can call Coles at the Red Lion's switchboard, 267-4141.
