SALEM (AP) - Aaron Munoz testified before a grand jury last year about the abuse he allegedly suffered at the hands of Michael Lee Boyles, his former juvenile probation officer.

On Friday night, the 21-year-old was found hanged in his Oregon State Penitentiary cell. His aunt, Kelly Mills of Portland, thinks he killed himself because of the abuse.

In a Sunday interview with The Oregonian, she said Munoz told her in a visit Friday that he didn't want to leave prison with a reputation as a snitch and a homosexual.

She said Munoz told her he wasn't going to walk out of the prison alive.

"He was angry ... he was scared," she said. "I cut short the visit because he was in such a foul mood."

Munoz was to be released from the penitentiary later this week after serving two years for an assault conviction.

The penitentiary announced that Munoz was found hanged in his cell in the intensive management unit. Oregon State Police will investigate the death.

Perrin Damon, a corrections department spokeswoman, said inmates get assigned to the unit by racking up negative points, either because they are a danger to staff or the general inmate population. Drug dealers, gang leaders and those who assault staff members are also sent to the intensive management unit. Munoz had been in the unit since April, Damon said.

Boyles, 49, is awaiting trial on 101 counts involving sex crimes with minors he supervised as a probation officer with the Oregon Youth Authority. He is being held on bail of more than $5.5 million.

Norm Frink, Multnomah County's chief deputy district attorney, confirmed that Munoz is among the victims listed in the indictment.

Boyles started work for the Oregon Youth Authority in 1995 and was fired in March 2004, soon after his arrest. He supervised youth offenders in the Portland area.

Mills said her nephew first met Boyles in early 1996, when Munoz was 13 and faced charges of shoplifting and breaking into a car.

"Before recording the ad, French signed an affidavit that said: 'I am able to swear, as I do hereby swear, that all facts and statements contained in this affidavit are true and correct and within my personal knowledge and belief.'"

Andrew Kramer, AP, August 24, 2004

Just for the historical record, of all the shoddy attacks leveled at the Swiftvets, this article represents, perhaps, "journalism" at its worst.

Andrew Kramer of the AP either malevolently or ignorantly misquotes Al French's affidavit. The actual quote from the affidavit reads...

"I am able to swear, as I do hereby swear, that all facts and statements contained in this affidavit are true and correct and within my personal knowledge OR belief."

http://www.foxnews.com/projects/pdf/tonysnow_vetaffadavit.pdf (see exhibit 2)

That single, misquoted word was foundational to the specious allegation that Mr. French "lied" in his affidavit...since he acknowledged other than first-hand knowledge in support of his sworn testimony. Mr. French's actual words rendered that allegation moot. Nor was Mr. Kramer unique in his shoddy reporting...

Is this suppose to be a surprise to everyone? If it is then I am flabergasted because all we need to do is look that the polls. The Ironic think about this is supposidly over 50% of the votes were in favor of Bush during the 2004 election. As Connie Frances sang sometime ago; Who's Sorry Now?!?!?
