Local veterans show support for Iraq vote

On the day before the Iraqi people voted in their first elections in more than 50 years, four U.S. veterans showed their support for troops stationed there and for the election process in Iraq.
Members of the local chapter of the Vietnam Veterans Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars held signs and flags on Bayshore Drive in Coos Bay in front of the boardwalk and the carved Vietnam Memorial in the background. Those who spent a couple of hours Saturday were from left, Ron Rams, Deputy Chief of Staff for the VFW in Oregon from Myrtle Point; Andy Whyte of North Bend; Mike Weathers of North Bend; and Jim Nielsen of Coquille.
