Half a world away from the exotic locales that play host to the CBS reality show "Survivor," the television network's North Bend affiliate is about to stage a casting call for locals willing to chase fame - or notoriety - along with a $1 million prize.

In a press release, KCBY-TV announced the audition, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Pony Village Mall in North Bend. The casting call is the first step in CBS's search for about 16 contestants to star in "Survivor 11," which production crews will film this summer and air in the fall. Each candidate on Tuesday will be given a two-minute videotaped audition that KCBY will send to Mark Burnett, executive producer of the series.

In December, CBS announced it would accept applications through affiliated stations and by mail for those wanting to appear in "Survivor 11." Producers of the reality program will interview about 800 semifinalists in 13 cities, then fly about 48 finalists in April to Los Angeles for a battery of physical examinations, psychological and background tests, and more interviews.

CBS has not revealed the location of "Survivor 11" or "Survivor 12," which it also announced in December. But Burnett, in an online interview with the E! cable-TV network, described scouting sites in Patagonia in southern Argentina, Mozambique, Madagascar, the Maldives, India, China and Papua New Guinea.
