Fire benefit today at pizza parlor
Friday, December 10, 2004 12:13 PM PST
The Friends of Leanda Sky are fund-raising to help the Coaledo woman whose house burned in a fire late last month.
Sky was uninsured. Homeowner's insurance, her friends say, was cost prohibitive, because she lived in a rural area, far from firefighting agencies.
A benefit is being held today for Sky at Denny's Pizza in Coquille, where her son, David, works.
For each large pizza sold between 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Unice Dodd, the store's owner, has committed to donate $2 to the Sky fire fund. For each medium pizza, $1 will be donated and for each small pizza, 50 cents.
A household items donation area also is set up at the restaurant.
"We're just trying to get something together for them. We feel really bad," said Coquille resident Cory Courtright, who is helping to organize the fund-raiser.
Friends also have set up an account to benefit Sky at Sterling Bank under the title "Fire Fund."
