Several organizations and businesses will stage Halloween events or alternatives to Halloween events this weekend. Here is a listing of some of them:
NB haunted house
The North Bend Police Officers Association third-annual Haunted House will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. each day through Halloween at the old Shoe Faire building in the east parking lot of the Pony Village Mall.
For generations the building has been empty, but lately locals claim to have seen and heard strange things that indicate someone - or something - is once again living inside. For those who dare to enter, admission is $4 general, $2 for children under 12.
Questions? Call Officer Jon Bohanon at the North Bend Police Department, 756-3161, ext. 410.
Free Halloween safety kits
Trick-or-treaters and their parents can stop by the U.S. Cellular store at 783 S. Broadway, Coos Bay, to pick up the supplies they need to help ensure a safe and fun Halloween.
Free safety kits include flashlights, glow sticks, clip-on reflectors, safety tips and other safety items.
U.S. Cellular associates will be in costume to greet children as they pick up their safety kits before they go trick-or-treating.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Call 290-8722 for more information.
Coquille Halloween Maze
Coquille's third-annual Halloween Maze, sponsored by the Coquille Chamber of Commerce, will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. each day through Saturday at the Community Building, 115 N. Birch. General admission is $2 each; children under 3 get in free. Additional trips cost $1 each.
NB Halloween carnival
The North Bend Police Officer's Association will hold a Halloween Carnival from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the North Bend Community Center.
Come for an evening of fun for the children, including games, prizes, a cakewalk, haunted house, food, drinks and more. Admission is one bag of individually wrapped candy per person.
'The Haunting'
The Chetco Pelican Players will present "The Haunting," a grand gothic Halloween haunted house, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Performing Arts Center in Harbor. The old theater has been transformed into a wickedly enchanted underground grotto inhabited by ghosts, goblins and enough gore to frighten your face off! Treats are in store for those who can stomach it at the end! PG-rated terror from 6 to 8 p.m., then completely unrestrained horror from 8 to 11. Cost is $5 general admission; $3 for children under 12.
Howl-O-Ween 3
Everyone is invited to take a "bite of the bay" on Saturday at Howl-O-Ween 3, a benefit event for Pacific Cove Humane Society.
The doors of the North Bend Community Center will open at 6:30 p.m. for fine food, live entertainment, wine tasting, costume contests, a silent auction and more.
Culinary treats will be offered from Café 2000, Elizabeth's, Gerry's On Central, Hilltop House, Portside, Cedar Grill and the Myrtle Point High School culinary arts program.
Tickets are $10 at PCHS, Reese Electric, Bandon True Value Hardware, Art Connection, Coquille Garden & Cyclery, Myrtle Point Veterinary Hospital and Coquille Veterinary Hospital.
Raffle tickets are available at the PCHS office, 2222 Broadway, Suite A, North Bend, for a 1995 Ford Escort station wagon and the prizes stored inside. Call 756-6522 for more information.
Libraries host parties
Ventriloquist figure Rudy O'Riley will star in "The Ghouls, Goblins & Giggles Halloween Safety Show," coming Saturday to the public libraries in Coos Bay (11 a.m.) and North Bend (2 p.m.). The free events will feature magic, ventriloquism, audience participation, magical bunnies and more. Costumes encouraged. Call 269-1101 for more information.
Trick or treat indoors
A screamin'-good time will be had by all from 3 to 6 p.m. on Halloween at Pony Village Mall, North Bend. Trick or treat indoors under dimmed lights and spooky music.
Free bags for the first 300 kids, with cotton candy, popcorn balls and treats from the merchants. Prizes for best costume will be awarded.
Petting zoo all day.
Harvest Party at the pool
North Bend Swimming Pool's third-annual Harvest Party will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Adults and children of all ages are invited to participate in the fun and games, including pumpkin races, bobbing for apples and a costume contest.
Prizes will be awarded. Free treats for all - don't forget your swimsuit! Admission is one can of non-perishable food to be donated to a local food bank.
Bandon Harvest Carnival
The second-annual Harvest Carnival will be sponsored by South Coast Assembly of God church at U.S. Highway 101 and 13th Street Southwest., in Bandon, from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
The Harvest Carnival will include lots of traditional carnival games, a photo booth, a little children's play area, and an impressive bouncy castle rented for this exciting event.
Entrance and the first 10 tickets are free.
Hot dogs and drinks will be served in the Harvest Canteen.
South Coast Assembly members have scheduled this alternative fun event for kids to have all the Halloween perks of costumes, goodies and games.

We, my husband and sister-in-law and I went to the Egyptian Theater tonight to watch the "Teen Idol." NO ONE was there and there were no messages regarding this program??? What's the deal here? We thought as stated in your web site above that it would be there on Thursday evenings at least through mid-August.. I look forward to hearin from you
It is an honor to particapate in Teen Idol, I'm having the time of my life. I get really excited when I see the turn out of people, friends and family at the Egyptian theatre. Thanks for your support! See you at the fair.

It doesn't matter what the administration says about what we've been hurt by or not hurt by!! There is such a thing as a RIPPLE effect.Because we lost a substantial source of revenue,Not only with the 2006 closure but the early closure in June of 2005 we all have incurred numerous bills that literally have many SERIOUS fisherman on the ropes!!Meaning those of us that earn every dime we make from Commercial fishing!Yes we were eligible for loans from the S.B.A. but thats just another Bill every month that we don't need!!It's kinda funny that they completely shut off the fishery for part of one year and totally for the next, but now we have all this time and unrestricted area to fish for Salmon but,to Date, we have a Whopping 62 fish in for the Year!!!There have been NO SALMON thus far!!The bills are still coming in and it is unconscionable to think for even one moment that we don't need every one of those disaster relief dollars!!DONALD JACOBS F/V ANA MARIA !
