Fire damages more than 6,000 acres in Oregon

The Oregon Department of Forestry compiles statistics on annual fire damage to private, state and federal lands under state fire protection jurisdiction. The following is a report comparing this year's fire season to-date to 2003.

Through Thursday

- Lightning-caused fires: 222 fires burned 303 acres

- Human-caused fires: 514 fires burned 839 acres

- Total fires: 736 fires burned 1,142 acres

Through Aug. 19, 2003

- Lightning-caused fires: 248 fires burned 2,175 acres

- Human-caused fires: 536 fires burned 4,116 acres

- Total fires: 784 fires burned 6,291 acres

This case begs the question: Why don't the proponents for the facts request or conduct their own investigation? One subject to disclosure. Finances, of all matters to a school district are easily tracked.
