DeFazio rescheduled town hall meetings

Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., has rescheduled several South Coast town hall meetings for Sept. 1.

DeFazio had to cancel the meetings originally planned for Aug. 16 and 17 so he could return to Washington, D.C., to attend a special congressional hearing on the recently-released 9-11 Commission Report.

Although Congress adjourned for the summer district work period, DeFazio and many of his colleagues urged House leaders to reconvene Congress in order to start debating and moving legislation in response to the sobering findings in the 9-11 Commission Report.

The meetings originally scheduled for Aug. 16-17 will be rescheduled on Wednesday, Sept. 1, as follows:

- 10 to 11 a.m.: Brookings town hall meeting, Chetco Senior Center, 632 Chetco, Brookings;

- noon to 1 p.m.: Gold Beach town hall meeting, Council Chambers, Gold Beach City Hall, 29592 Ellensburg Ave.;

- 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.: Port Orford town hall meeting, Council Chambers, Port Orford City Hall, 555 W. 20th St.; and

- 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Coos Bay town hall meeting, Council Chambers, Coos Bay City Hall, 500 Central Ave.
