Special Olympians win softball medals

A South Coast Special Olympics softball team qualified for next weekend's state championships, as did three individual skills athletes.

The team, the Pirates, earned a silver medal in the unified division in the recent regional competition in Eugene.

The group, coached by Adam Pritt, includes Special Olympics athletes Jamie Daniels, Paul Davis, Donnie Buford, Larry Gregory, Stephanie Nix, Nick Pearce, Jerry Stoneking and Jason Miller. Partners for the athletes were Aaron Draper, Margie Hoffman, Marty Hoffman, Tucker Hoffman and Bill Kehler. Patty Draper will help coach the team during the state competition.

In individual skills, both Jason Diggle and Cathy Caldera earned gold medals and Fred Waters won a silver. The individual skills athletes were coached by Wendy Diggle.

The state competition is July 31 and Aug. 1 in Corvallis.
