Maggie Bagon, center left, gesturing, talks about the USA Patriot Act at a meeting Wednesday evening at the Coos Bay Public Library.

She and a few other residents organized the meeting to provide information about the Bill of Rights Defense Committee - a nationwide organization that works with local groups to provide information about the USA Patriot Act. The committees identify several problems with the Patriot Act, legislation introduced in the weeks after the 9-11 attacks that, many people feel, infringe on Americans' civil liberties. The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 4, at the Coos Bay Public Library. More information about the Bill of Rights Defense Committee is available online on its Web site at http://www.bordc.org.
