Children's advocates will be holding a meeting on Thursday, May 27, to discuss "Hunger and Food Issues in Coos County" and compile information for a brochure to link families with food programs.
The forum, hosted by the Coos County Commission on Children and Families, will feature a discussion with a panel of food program representatives. The meeting is scheduled from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Education Service District building, 1350 Teakwood Ave., Coos Bay.
According to a press release, the South Coast Food Share, which is 25-member hunger relief network in Coos and Curry counties, reports that families here face a chronic problem of not being able to afford to buy food.
Groups and agencies represented at the meeting are to include Women, Infants and Children; area school districts; the Coquille Indian Tribe; officials of area food banks and food stamp programs; THE House; and the Coos County-Oregon State University Extension Service.
