Chiefs' breakfast scheduled
Saturday, May 15, 2004 9:22 AM PDT

Former Coos Bay Police Chief Chuck Knight, along with Chief Eura Washburn and North Bend Police Chief Steve Scibelli, will host a Community Prayer Breakfast at 7 a.m. on Thursday, May 27, at the Red Lion Inn, in Coos Bay.

The guest speaker will be Willamette University football coach Mark Speckman. In addition to other accomplishments, Speckman developed and implemented a program for identifying and working with at-risk youth at Merced High School in California. He taught social studies and coached football for 17 years in the high school setting and is listed in the "Who's Who Among American History Teachers."

He is currently head football coach at Willamette in Salem, where he has coached 13 championship teams, and has been named Coach of the Year nine times.

Coach Speckman, who was born without hands, has a compelling story to share.

The prayer breakfast is open to the community and reservations are required. The admission of $13 per person will include a full buffet breakfast and gratuity. Reservations with payments can be mailed to Chief's Prayer Breakfast, 424 N. 14th St., Coos Bay, OR 97420. Checks should be made payable to "Chief's Prayer Breakfast."
