Whether or not voters have finalized their feelings about consolidation or whom they would like to see as the next county commissioner, the ballots for the May 18 primary election are in the mail.
Coos County Election Deputy DeDe Murphy said the elections office delivered the ballots to the Coquille post office Friday.
"Most voters will receive their ballot during the week of May third through May seventh," Murphy said in a press release. Voters who do not receive a ballot by Friday should contact the Elections Office.
"Things have been going really good," Murphy said Friday afternoon. "The number of registered voters is up a little bit."
She said the Elections Office had about 200 people - both young and old - register to vote in Coos County by last week's deadline.
"We had all kinds of people," she said. "A lot of them had never registered to vote before."
Ballots need to be returned to the Elections Office by 8 p.m. on May 18. They can either be dropped of at one of several drop boxes in the county (which are now listed on the county's Web site, www.co.coos.or.us/elections/ballot.htm) or returned by mail. The ballots will cost 60 cents in postage to return them by mail.
Those interested in contacting the Elections Office can call 396-3121 or 756-2020, ext. 301.
