MANZANITA (AP) - Tillamook County authorities have identified a missing man who allegedly fell into the ocean as Gregory Askew, 40, of Scappoose.

A man identifying himself as Askew called 911 Friday night and said he had fallen about 15 feet off a cliff north of Manzanita into the ocean and could not get out. The cell phone then went dead.

A search that continued through the weekend was unable to find anyone.

Askew was the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation in Columbia County that involves allegations of domestic and sexual abuse, Tillamook County Sheriff Todd Anderson said Monday.

Askew's abandoned pickup truck was found in the vicinity. A receipt found in the truck showed Askew had spent Thursday night in a hotel in Cannon Beach and checked out on Friday, Anderson said.

Relatives last spoke with Askew around midday Friday, the last known contact with family or friends, Anderson said.
