Paul Burgett will seek another term as Coos County district attorney.

In a press release dated Jan. 29, Burgett, the longest-serving county prosecutor in the state, declared his candidacy for the position he has held since 1980.

The six-term DA is board chairman of the Oregon Attorney General's Sexual Assault Task Force and was appointed to Gov. Ted Kulongoski's Methamphet-amine Task Force earlier this year.

Previously, he served as president of the Oregon District Attorney's Association in 1994, received a Law Enforcement Commendation Medal from the Sons of the American Revolution in 1993 and won a public-safety award that year from the Oregon Department of Corrections.
