Area teams honored for work in classroom

Several South Coast teams were ranked in the top 10 for academics during the fall sports season.
North Bend's girls cross country team had the highest ranking among area schools in the Dairy Farmers of Oregon Academic All-State program, placing fourth for Class 3A squads with a combined grade point average of 3.84.
North Bend's boys also were in the top 10, ranking eighth with a 3.58 gpa.
The girls cross country teams from Reedsport (3.66) and Bandon (3.64) ranked sixth and seventh, respectively, for the Class 2A-1A division.
Two other South Coast teams were in the top 10 - Bandon's volleyball squad (seventh in Class 2A with a 3.78 gpa) and the football team from Powers that will play for the state championship on Saturday (eighth in Class 1A with a 3.11 gpa).
In addition, several schools had individual teams with combined gpas over 3.0, including:
- Brookings-Harbor: volleyball (3.53), girls soccer (3.36) and boys soccer (3.20).
- Coquille: football (3.02), volleyball (3.53) and girls soccer (3.13)
- North Bend: football (3.02), volleyball (3.09), girls soccer (3.12) and boys soccer (3.09).
- Pacific: volleyball (3.14).
- Reedsport: volleyball (3.45).
- Siuslaw: volleyball (3.39), boys cross country (3.07).
Statewide, the sport winners (all classifications) were Wallowa for football (3.47), Knappa for volleyball (3.89), Corvallis for girls cross country (4.0), Summit for boys cross country (3.96), Barlow for girls soccer (3.90) and Sweet Home for boys soccer (3.79). |
