Fire cause sought

Investigators with the Coos Forest Protective Association have determined the point of origin of the Hootman Fire that burned south of Coos Bay the past week but still are looking for additional information regarding the cause of the blaze.
The fire, which began July 26, burned 60 acres largely planted with seedlings approximately 8 miles south of Coos Bay.
District Manager Mike Robison said investigators are not releasing the origin of the fire. He said investigators are uncovering new evidence regarding the Hootman Fire and are attempting to rule out whether the blaze was intentionally set.
"We know that it's human caused and we're just following up on leads," he said. "We have no reason to determine if it was arson."
Robison said investigators were able to rule out natural causes of the fire, such as lighting.
The CFPA is releasing few details about blaze until more information is collected and is hoping that residents with knowledge of the blaze will come forward.
Anyone with information regarding the blaze or who was in the vicinity of the fire on July 26 can contact the CFPA at (541)267-3161.
