South Coast residents being honored for watershed work

Saturday, May 31, 2003 |
Some South Coast residents will be recognized at the Oregon Capitol building on Wednesday, June 11, for doing their part to protect Oregon's watersheds.
They will be among several citizens from across the state who will be publicly recognized for their grass-roots accomplishments and leadership in protecting Oregon's natural resources by participating in Oregon Plan for Salmon and Watershed activities. Their contributions are varied and include finding ways to recycle water at a middle school, managing animal waste at dairy farms, protecting riparian areas while harvesting timber, inventorying fish populations, monitoring water quality and much more.
Gov. Ted Kulongoski, Senate President Peter Courtney and Speaker of the House Karen Minnis will host the event. All three are expected to be present at the 30-minute ceremony. Those being honored have previously received agency recognition from the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board, the Oregon Department of Forestry, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Oregon Department of Agriculture, the Oregon Water Resources Department or the Oregon Office of Energy.
Local honorees include Bob King, R&R King Logging Inc. in Florence; Blaine Waldien, LA Logging Inc. in Coquille; and Jeff Cochran, Cochran Dairy in Coquille.
