Youth Summit helps students 'Choose Your Path'
Thursday, March 27, 2003 11:37 AM PST
More than 330 high school students from Brookings to Reedsport spent March 19 at Southwestern Oregon Community College attending the third-annual Coos County Youth Summit "Choose Your Path." Students attended seminars on topics ranging from positive decision making and college planning to teen sexuality.
Above, students listen to a presentation on the dangers of party drugs and learned about club drugs that could take a person "from the rave to the grave." Representatives from branches of the U.S. military also were in attendance to inform students about enlistment. Two of the summit's highlights were keynote speaker Michael Pritchard of San Francisco and music provided by local band Lunar Active. Planning for next year's summit will begin in the fall. For more information about serving on the planning commission, those interested can call the Commission on Children and Families at 396-3121, ext. 392.
